Since the UK left the EU, if you travel between the Netherlands and the UK via North Sea ferry routes, carriers must report their journey to Portbase, the Dutch port community system.
Failure to register your journey with Portbase will mean that you cannot enter the ferry terminal or board the ferry. Penalties can also apply.
Portbase is needed for the following routes -
- Harwich ⇄ Hook of Holland
- Killingholme ⇄ Hook of Holland
- Harwich ⇄ Rotterdam Europoort
- Immingham ⇄ Rotterdam Europoort
- Hull ⇄ Rotterdam Europoort
- Teesport ⇄ Rotterdam Europoort
- Felixstowe ⇄ Rotterdam Vlaardingen
- Purfleet ⇄ Rotterdam Europoort
How do I register my journey with Portbase?
If you register directly with Portbase, subscription costs around 250 Euros!
However, when making your ferry booking with Freightlink, we only charge you £5 for the Portbase Port Pass plus your ferry booking and a small admin fee to transfer the data into the relevant ferry company systems. Bargain!
Sounds great, what do I do next?
It's simple. Make your ferry booking as normal via the Freightlink website, Freightlink App or our customer service team and we'll send you a link to our Port Pass Generator.
I need help with my customs documentation
Not a problem. Our CustomsLink team can help with all of your import and export customs declarations, so that you can get ready for your journey. Contact our experts to discuss your requirements.
